CONNOR MCDAVID SURPASSES JARI KURRI ON OILERS ALL-TIME POINTS LIST

Connor McDavid, the undisputed leader of the Edmonton Oilers, has once again etched his name into the franchise’s history books. On January 15, 2025, during a commanding 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild, McDavid achieved a career milestone by surpassing Jari Kurri to claim second place on the Oilers’ all-time points list.

McDavid’s moment came in the third period, as he netted his second goal of the game at 12:49, bringing his career total to 1,044 points. The achievement came in just 686 games, surpassing Kurri’s 1,043 points, which the Finnish Hall of Famer accumulated over 754 games. Now, only the legendary Wayne Gretzky, with an untouchable 1,669 points in 696 games, stands ahead of McDavid on the franchise leaderboard.

This milestone is part of an extraordinary season for McDavid, who earlier this year became just the fourth player in Oilers history to reach 1,000 career NHL points, joining the ranks of Gretzky, Kurri, and Mark Messier.

In the game against the Wild, McDavid was a force to be reckoned with, contributing two goals and an assist. His efforts led the Oilers to their seventh win in their last eight games, showcasing the team’s upward trajectory as they push for playoff positioning. McDavid’s continued excellence remains the cornerstone of Edmonton’s success.

McDavid’s ascent up the all-time points list is not just a testament to his talent but also to his consistency and work ethic. Since being drafted first overall in 2015, he has redefined what it means to be a generational player. His vision, speed, and scoring touch have made him a perennial MVP candidate and a player whose name is already synonymous with greatness.

While Jari Kurri’s legacy remains firmly intact as one of the best wingers to ever play the game, McDavid’s ability to surpass his record in fewer games underscores the modern-day captain’s extraordinary impact on the ice.

As McDavid continues to chase individual and team success, all eyes are on whether he can lead the Oilers to another Stanley Cup—a feat the franchise has not achieved since 1990. With the team in excellent form and McDavid at the peak of his powers, Edmonton’s playoff aspirations look brighter than ever.

Connor McDavid’s milestone not only solidifies his standing among the all-time greats of the Edmonton Oilers but also serves as a reminder of his generational talent. As he climbs closer to Gretzky’s iconic numbers, the question is not just how far McDavid will go, but what new heights he will take the Oilers to along the way. For Edmonton fans, the journey has been unforgettable—and the best may still be ahead.
