RECAP: FOSTER THE PEOPLE 'PARADISE STATE OF MIND' TOUR

Foster The People returned to Vancouver on January 27, 2025, for a sold-out show at Queen Elizabeth Theatre, marking their first performance at the venue in a decade. Touring in support of their latest album, Paradise State of Mind, the band delivered a set filled with shimmering synths, pulsing grooves, and infectious energy.

Mark Foster, lead singer of Foster the People, intensely playing a red electric guitar on stage. He wears a black jacket adorned with sparkling embellishments, leaning forward with a focused expression. The stage is bathed in warm, golden lighting, with a band member visible in the background near a keyboard, and atmospheric haze adding depth to the scene.

Flashing orange and blue lights pulsed through the venue as the members of Foster The People took the stage one by one, easing into a jam before launching into “Feed Me.” Mark Foster, the band’s charismatic frontman, wasted no time feeding off the crowd’s energy, dancing across the stage while locking into the song’s hypnotic groove.

“It’s good to be back in Vancouver,” Foster shouted to the crowd between songs. Ten years later since Foster the People played in Vancouver, and in the same venue. This marked the band’s fifth-ever performance in the city, and the energy in the room suggested that fans had been eagerly awaiting their return.

The night showcased a seamless blend of new tracks and fan favourites. Songs like “Lost in Space” and “Take Me Back” reflected the band’s latest sonic evolution, drenched in shimmering synths and disco-fueled beats. Longtime fans, however, were treated to early gems like “Helena Beat,” “Call It What You Want,” and “Houdini,” which drew some of the loudest singalongs of the night.

The main set closed with “Lotus Eater,” a high-energy, guitar-driven anthem that had the crowd bouncing. But the night wasn’t over yet. Returning for a two-song encore, the band delivered “Sit Next to Me,” its laid-back groove serving as a perfect contrast to the final song of the night, “Pumped Up Kicks.”

By the time the first notes of “Pumped Up Kicks” hit, the crowd was fully locked in, chanting every word to the band’s breakout hit. The song, which catapulted Foster The People to international fame in 2010, served as a nostalgic reminder of just how much the group has evolved while maintaining their signature sound.

With Vancouver now in the books, the Paradise State of Mind Tour rolls on across North America, with stops in Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more. Judging by the band’s electric performance, fans across the continent are in for a truly special experience.
